Synopsis
“Queen of Tears” revolves around the marriage of Baek Hyun Woo, a legal director of the conglomerate Queens Group, and Hong Hae-in, the head of the Queen’s Department Store—and Hyun Woo’s boss. Hae-in, born into a wealthy family, faced disapproval from her parents due to Hyun Woo’s modest background (he came from a very small town).
Three years into their marriage, miscommunications, misunderstandings, and family pressures cause their relationship to deteriorate, and their once strong love seems lost. However, everything changes when Hae-in discovers she has only three months to live. Upon learning this, Hyun Woo celebrates, seeing it as a chance to finally escape the marriage. However, before she dies, he decides to “pretend” to love her in order to secure her billion-dollar will.
🧸 My Feelings
While watching this, I cried so much. Kim Soo Hyun’s and Kim Ji Won’s acting was just simply “top-notch”. Throughout the whole drama, I kept saying “How is this man so handsome” the entire time. However, there were so many miscommunications between Hyun Woo and Hae-In, which makes me feel so bad for them as these misunderstandings are the reason why their marriage deteriorated. If only they had expressed their love to each other more, maybe it would have been a different story.
However, sometimes there were so many plot holes that left me wondering “Why/how did that happen”. It just feels so surface-level. For example, how can one easily overthrow such a huge chaebol (rich) family? How can someone just walk into a hospital and take custody of a patient, who’s CLEARY already had someone taking care of her. How could Hae-In simply trust someone, who looked so SUSpicious, for such a long time?!
⭐️ 0.7 Stars Deduction
I have to say, while watching this drama, just from episodes 1-12, this drama was going to become my TOP1 favourite drama as I just love sad dramas. However, I began to question my life from ep 14-16. How, just HOW did they manage to stuff in so many plot lines within like 2/3 episodes??? There were car crashes, gunshots, amnesia, power fighting for rights, cops, jail?! All I have to say is that it was such a “Malatang” (when you mix so many things into a pot).
The above, plus questionable events, has forced me to deduct 0.7 from this drama even though I loved it SO MUCH in the beginning.
